EDITOR.PPE & NEWS.PPE V x.x
Release Date 12/20/95
───────────────
First let me say thank you for taking the time to try these two great
PPE's. I've seen a lot of ways to display the NEWS, but none with
this type of online EDITOR. Let's face it - we spend alot of time at
the keyboard! Why not make it easier time? Well, I feel this will be
a help to you and, if you look at the REG.DOC, for only $ 5.00 it is
low-priced too. I've spent about a month on this program and feel it
runs great. Well that's enough babble - let's get started in setting up.
FIRST THE FILES YOU SHOULD HAVE IN YOUR ZIP PACKAGE
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
NEWS.PPE - the PPE replacement for your current NEWS file
EDITOR.PPE - the PPE that manages you on-line NEWS files
COLOR.KEY - the file that contains your news format choices
BLOCK - the block background display format file
DISPR - the Red background display format file
DISPB - the Blue background display format file
DISP - the current background display format file
HELPCOLR - the Help file for Color and Format changes
REG.DOC - Please support Shareware and register these programs
SETUP.DOC - This file
SETTING UP YOUR COMMAND LIST
─────────────────────────────────
Using PCBSETUP, go to B - File Locations, then B - Configuration Files
Go to the Name/Loc of Default CMD.LST File and hit the F2 key
Add the following command replacments:
COMMAND SEC PATH
ED 110 C:\PCB\PPE\EDITOR.PPE
(or your SysOp Level) (or your path to the PPEs)
NEWS 10 C:\PCB\PPE\NEWS.PPE
or your desired User level) (or your path to the PPEs)
Also, to be sure the users see your news when they log in to your BBS,
Use PCBEDIT (or any text editor) to create a new NEWS file to match the
name you chose in PCBSETUP, Main Board Configuration, for your NEWS file.
(In other words, delete your existing news file, and make a new one with
the same name as follows)
On the first line of this "news" file, type the following:
!drive:\location of PPE\NEWS.PPE
for example:
!C:\PCB\PPE\NEWS\NEWS.PPE
Don't forget the "bang" - ! - or "exclamation mark" before the drive!
That's it! PCBoard will now run the NEWS PPE instead of displaying your
old news file.
USING THE EDITOR
────────────────────────────
As soon as you bring up the EDITOR you should be able to walk though it.
▓▓▓▓ADDING NEWS FILES▓▓▓▓
When your ADDING News start with 1 and work your way up to 15. The NEWS
PPE will display the news files from the bottom up (latest to oldest).
Its OK to use as many or as few as you wish. Files that do not exist will
be skipped.
Enter a Subject for your news item.
Hit your ENTER key to get to the main text entry. If you finish
your text entry before you get to the end (Line 17) just use your
ENTER key to get to the bottom. You will get a prompt for the total
number of text lines - enter the last number where your text ended.
Next you'll get a PROMPT (Y)es to accept, (N)o to start over. If you choose
(N)o, all entry information will be discarded, and you will have to start
over again. (Sorry, this is not a text editor!)
▓▓▓CHANGE DISPLAY FORMAT▓▓▓
The CHANGE COLOR is available only with Registered Versions. Its very nice
so I hope you register SOON.
For those with their registration number, you will be shown the colors
you are currently using. If you decide to change the display, check the
(H)elp screen for your options. The display formats are BLock, Red and
Blue and are shown on the help screen. Enter your choice, or hit ENTER
to accept the current display.
